Pasban-e-Azaa leader shot dead in Karachi

KARACHI: The leader of a Shi’a political organisation Pasban-e-Azaa, Syed Askari Raza, was gunned down on Saturday evening in a sectarian-motivated target killing in Gulshan-e-Iqbal Karachi by two armed men riding a motorcycle, Dispatch News Desk (DND) reported, the attack also left an activist of the group badly injured.

Police said president of Pasban-e-Azaa Pakistan, along with an activist and friend Ali Mehdi, left for Gulshan-e-Iqbal from Gulistan-i-Jauhar. On Rashid Minhas Road, two men riding a motorcycle drove up beside them and sprayed their car with bullets. Mehdi fired back at the suspects in retaliation. However, the assailants managed to flee, leaving Raza and Mehdi injured, police added.

The injured were immediately taken to the Aga Khan Hospital where Raza was later pronounced dead. Mehdi is said to be in a stable condition.
