NEW DELHI: India would give a befitting reply to Pakistan after its troops resorted to heavy shelling at Indian positions at more than 30 locations along the Line of Control (LoC), Indian Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde said on Wednesday.

A Border Security Force (BSF) member and seven others were injured during the recent exchange of fire, Indian media reported.

“I am reviewing the security situation along the Line of Control and the International Border. Additional BSF troops are being rushed to the Indo-Pakistan border, “Shinde told media representatives.

“We will give a befitting reply to Pakistan.”

Shinde’s remarks came hours after Indian media reported that heavy firing from the Pakistan side late on Tuesday in the RS Pura and Pargawal sectors claimed the life of a BSF trooper and injured seven others.

The Indian media reported that the shelling from the Pakistan side continued for almost six hours throughout the night on Tuesday, adding that the Pakistani troops fired mortars and rockets targeting BSF posts and nearby villages.
