Foreign Office of Pakistan releases statement highlighting visit of President Mamoon to Turkmenistan

Islamabad, Pakistan: The President of Pakistan, Mamnoon Hussain visited Ashgabat, Turkmenistan to attend the opening ceremony of the V-Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games from 16-18 September 2017.

Foreign Office of Pakistan released a statement to highlight the visit of President Mamoon. Here under is the statement:

The government of Turkmenistan is hosting V-Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games at Ashgabat from 17-27 September 2017. Pakistan is being represented by a 130 member strong contingent participating in nine events at the games.

On the sidelines of the event, the President H.E. Mr. Mamnoon Hussain met the President of Turkmenistan, H.E. Mr. Gurbanguly Berdimehamedov. The President of Turkmenistan welcomed the President and Pakistan’s delegation and appreciated Pakistan’s participation in the event. The President congratulated the Turkmen President for successful holding of the Martial Arts. He also thanked President for the warm hospitality extended to him and his delegation. The President also had a bilateral meeting with the President of Tajikistan, H.E. Mr. Emomali Rahmon on the sidelines of the event and discussed matters of mutual interests.

The President underlined the importance of connectivity, emphasizing that the countries in the region should make the most of all the existing trade and energy corridors to bring prosperity in our region. The Turkmen President endorsed the President’s desire for regional connectivity and highlighted the need to further augment our relations through increased trade.

Both the leaders also underscored the importance both countries attach to the collaboration in the energy sector. Pakistan and Turkmenistan are engaged in the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline project, which holds huge potential for meeting Pakistan’s energy needs. The two sides agreed to seek ways of ensuring early realization of this project.

Pakistan and Turkmenistan enjoy close, cordial relations marked by trust and understanding. Bilateral collaboration in different sectors has been growing steadily. The President’s visit to Turkmenistan will further contribute to increased mutual cooperation on the bilateral and regional planes.
