LAHORE: Pakistani and Indian military authorities on Tuesday reiterated the resolve and commitment to continue efforts for ensuring ceasefire‚ peace and tranquility on the Line of Control (LoC).
This was stated in a joint statement issued after the Directors General Military Operations (DGMOs) level meeting between Pakistan Army and Indian Army on the issues related to the LoC at Wagah on Tuesday.
The Pakistani delegation was headed by Director General Military Operations‚ Pakistan Army Major General Aamer Riaz, while the Indian delegation was headed by Director General Military Operations‚ Indian Army Lieutenant General Vinod Bhatia.
Two brigadiers and two colonels assisted Pakistani DGMO, while two brigadiers and three colonels aided his Indian counterpart.
The statement said the meeting was held in a cordial‚ positive and constructive atmosphere. Both the DGMOs showed their commitment to maintain the sanctity and ceasefire on the LoC and agreed to re-energize the existing mechanisms.

During the meeting, consensus was developed to make hotline contact between the two DGMOs more effective and result oriented. It was also decided to inform each other if any innocent civilian inadvertently crosses the LoC‚ in order to ensure his / her early return.

To carry forward the positive spirit of the DGMOs meeting‚ two flag meetings between Brigade Commanders will be held on the LoC in the near future‚ to ensure maintenance of peace and tranquility along the LoC.

Earlier, the Director General Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Asim Saleem Bajwa said that meeting between the DGMOs of Pakistan Army and Indian Army was held in a cordial atmosphere and remained positive.
The director general ISPR said that both the sides discussed to further reinforce the ceasefire agreement concluded between Pakistan and India in 2003 to reduce tensions along the LoC and Working Boundary.
The meeting took place after the Pakistani DGMO had extended an invitation to his Indian counterpart to have a meeting on December 24 to discuss ways to strengthen the ceasefire on the LoC.
Under a mechanism agreed in September 29 between the Indian and Pakistani prime ministers in New York, the two countries had agreed that their DGMOs would hold regular talks for reducing tensions along the LoC.
The two countries agreed to a ceasefire along the LoC in 2003, but the agreement has been periodically breached, with both sides regularly accusing each other of violations.
Though hostilities have relatively cooled down now, border troops have exchanged fire several times over the past few months.
