Pakistan’s Muhammad Karim finishes 71nd in men’s giant slalom event at Sochi Winter Olympic Games

sochidndSOCHI: Muhammad Karim, Pakistan’s sole representative at the Sochi Olympics, finished in the 71nd position in the men’s alpine skiing giant slalom competition at the Rosa Khutor Alpine Center during the Sochi Winter Olympics on Wednesday.

The 18-year-old Karim clocked a combined timing of 3:27.41 over two races to finish second last among 72 athletes who completed the race.

India’s alpine skier Himanshu Thakur finished last as he finished 72nd, with a time of 3:37.55 after two runs.

Ted Ligety of United States won the gold medal, with a combined time of 2:45.29. The silver medal went to Steve Missillier of France who finished with 2:45.77, while another Frenchman Alexis Pinturault won the bronze in 2:45.93.

A total of 107 skiers took part in the event and as many as 35 were either disqualified or could not finish the race.
